Support for Magnum Hybrid inverters

Does silverleaf intend on supporting the new Magnum hybrid inverter technology and if so when would an update be available. I have both the 400 and total coach silverleaf systems

The inverter itself is supported--but to date, we've no ability to access the hybrid functions. That's about all there is to know about that right now.

I purchased a new magnum

I purchased a new magnum inverter but am choosing to hold off installation until the hybrid control function is integrated unless my xantrex bites the dust and I am forced to upgrade. I would like to update to the new total coach panel at the same time.

The nature of the the hybrid section would require us to make, for this one inverter, in the small after-market segment, a pretty significant engineering investment--not a minor software change. We'll do that when the tides change and we need to adapt to or be part of a new industry standard. Its a balancing act to ensure all previous gains are retained and no new risks are created--all while moving forward.

The hybrid section of your system is pretty neat for the user, yet it was accomplished by creating their own, closed, system for monitoring. With their single panel. It was a neat idea but, in an industry where we all agree to be nice 'in the sandbox' they made up their own rules. Remember "Xanbus" and Xantrex changing standards, what, three times before finally agreeing to use a standard connection?

We did flip flops that time to make an adapter, script special code into some versions the TM102--all while programming around their neat, non-standard, ideas. But Xantrex was in everything so, they got their way...for a while.

So, we're holding off. We're hopeful (and not without reason *wink* ) that they will finish the job with their own RV-C standard interface; compliant with other equipment makers.

So, in short, same answer as before: no, not yet.

We expect Magnum will finish their updated RVC interface before long--and much sooner than we'll ever address this. As above, its not on the ever-full and immediate to-do list.

Im patient but if my xantrex goes down ill need to make a plan to use the magnum interface.

The Hybrid is... a go! ...but...

We recently had the occasion to order-in a Magnum Hybrid. A 2007 Essex (with ePlex) rolled in wanting a total makeover with complete RV-C (Silverleaf), Rozie telematics, Lithium-Ion batteries, Solar with an outback controller and a Magnum Hybrid. With the order came the RV-C controller they (finally!) produced. This was a the hoped-for outcome, rather than building our own box for their inverter.

Its a nice little box; pretty skookum, much as the rest of their products--and easy to hook up. Clear instructions, too! ;-)

The inverter is the same footprint as the original modified-sine we pulled out. And, the only bug in the ointment is a user-configuration issue. Namely, there isn't a way to change the shore-power Amperage ie, 20, 30 or 50 etc. We're still working that out with them; this seems to be one of the few/ first RV-C boxes in the wild.

So, there ya go. When you order yours, you may ask about the shore-power bug and how they're getting around it or...what.

I have been in contact with both magnum and silverleaf but as of yet am getting conflicting info so not sure how to proceed. Silverleaf says I need a controller in addition to the rv-c box. Magnum says no and silverleaf curded the bug with software on there end. So here I sit waiting to confirm what products need to be purchased and the steps required. Can you clarify? Magnum says I need to purchase the rv-v from you since they sell it to oems only.

Only one bridge is needed for the hybrid inverter and theirs is most desirable. Previous to Magnums' new release, we built and used a TM502 to talk to their Inverters. Their new RV-C unit is ideal for the Hybrid inverter and is now a proven performer.

We've had a sample of their bridge unit --very nice, I will add-- and made software adjustments to our current line-up to match their implementation. We can have that shipped to you, $90 plus shipping. Older equipment, however, may not be supported.

Given the age of your coach, we may not be able to fully support the inverters' display. In a previous post, you mentioned "...I have both the 400 and total coach silverleaf systems..." --Which I take to mean a VMS400. The code-space in the VMS400 is full and no longer supported. So, in short, it won't be able to display/control your house-DC system accurately.

Give us a call, letting us know the make, model and year of your coach--an/or the model of Total Coach System and we'll know if it can be updated.

We'd like to set up an RMA number to track this, getting all our ducks in a row before shipping anything to us.

An update on our project

Thought i would update for any who may be following this forum. Silverleaf as always has been a pleasure to deal with.The vms400,touch screen and tm102 are on there ride to silverleaf for updating.I replaced the inverter so were ready for the re-programed equipment along to the magnum rv-c bridge.
Pulled all the equipment and swapped the inverter in a half day.My only regret was i didnt re-set the xantex 3000 to factory default settings before pulling and since my equipment is on the road i may have trouble reusing the old inverter with the large battery bank settings. Controls are no longer available from xantrex.

Everything went as planned with the exception to being able to see the inverter load. When inverting the output is displayed as zero.I have been communicating with magnum but so far no solution.May have to install a standalone gauge.

The total Coach won't be able to pick out those data for load. With our installs done here we were using the HMS365 touch panel(s). Those requires custom software to coexist and otherwise work properly. Not a big trick as they're the currently produced unit.

We're not able to update the software on the classic total-coach--a separate panel will be needed.

I sent in the hms 365 and the 400 for updating and reprograming and silverleaf returned the equipment along with the bridge so I thought it would be a simple install. I was ready for some bugs and just haven't figured this out yet.

magnum inverter with silverlef update

Its still a no go for inverter output data but we may have found the issue. I may be wrong but I think the inverter output data was not programed into the current software release because the older magnums didn't provide that information reliably. The current inverters do a good job of providing that information so magnum has offered to send a current inverter to silverleaf for testing and updating there software.
Once complete I will either need to send my equipment back or have them send me omniscope for on site updating.

another update

The output glitch was figured out and new software was created to allow for the transmission of the data. The last report I got was it was going to be tested but I have not heard back with a confirmation the new code worked. Still waiting for confirmation before sending equipment in for updating.
