Horsepower and torque readings drop out.

Have a Cat 3126 330 HP w/ Allison 3000 using 6b version

As I pull a hill and watch the horsepower and torque readings at 328 HP the readings drop to zero. As soon as the load is reduced and the engine output drops they come back.

Just downloaded the additional engine files to see if you have an extended engine file for this application.

I'm wondering what the engine speed (RPM) is when it drops out? I'm looking at the engine file using the tool for building them. I see the official ratings we used started at 1400 RPM & 227HP. Most other engines (later Cummins) gave ratings starting as-low-as 1000 and 1200 RPM.

If you like, I could create a special version to allow for extrapolating these lower engine speeds. Understanding they would lack accuracy the further down-scale we went; it would still be darn close...and perhaps...less distracting.

HP/ Torque drop-out

I have a trip planned this weekend. I know that the HP reading will not go over 328 but was not checking the RPM. I will watch the RPM this trip and let you know.

The low end is OK. On start-up I get idle RPM and no torque or hp. But as soon as I move the coach they come up. Off idle I get 2 digit HP and the program matches the idle RPM around 700 RPM that the engine computer is reporting.

A few engine system mods. Should be able to reach 335 to 350 HP.
Next project is to use the marine software to boost it to the 400 HP marine rating.

Ah, yes, the same scenario we discussed--just the other end of the scale. The scale can be extended soas to continue to produce values. The downside is not like the low-RPM issue...more like the opposite.
...When we extend the low end, extrapolating our best-guess for somewhat realistic values, its at the low end of the scale...one we're not relying on. More of a nuisance fix. But, at the high end, those values are the whole point of the excercise.

And there lies the rub. That scale won't reflect accurately the actual values your somewhat tweaked up engine are producing. You'll need to find the curves (as dyno graphs) produced for that mill with those mods. Or, barring that, something closer than the stock values which are really not even correct at lower RPMs.

With the more accurate graphs (torque and HP), I can produce an engine file.

Those mods for boosting power won't be displayed well or at all on your guages. The engine file you choose when setting up is a template from a known engine with well defined specs. Once you take the same engine and tweak the timing, fuel or injectors (or whatever) the engine no longer follows the predictable curves when it was built. Fuctionally, rubber on the road, is the resulting better/ different performance. However, the torque and hp will flatten or drop on the gauges though you can feel it still building.

The solution would be to find a marine engine file with torque and hp curves which match your new combination of tweaks. Only then will the guages follow actual performance. You can find these with scouring the web...though it may take a while and many dead ends. Theres a couple marine engine files in the Additional Engines folder that may help. Good luck!

When you find one, email it to me and Ill create a engine file from it.
