Guys:
I am having trouble getting the VMSpc drivers to load(install)on a new computer with Win 8. Anyone have any secrets?
Windows 8?
Software and drivers for new software? Any idea when?
Thanks
Re:Windows 8 and VMSpc Drivers
Windows 8, and specifically the AMD 64 version, has Increased Security by Not Installing any Unsigned Drivers.
We use the USB Drivers provided by the USB Hardware Manufacture, FTDI Chip, but change the .INF Files to look for the SilverLeaf assigned Product ID ( PID ), so that the Device Manager entry shows "VMSpc Virtual Serial Port", which makes setting the COM Port easier.
I am looking into what it takes to be able to have SilverLeaf sign Drivers, to Minimize this Issue.
In the mean time.....
Here is a Video describing the Steps to Disable Driver Signature Enforcement, it seems to have worked for some people..
How to Disable Driver Signature Enforcement in Windows 8
Here is a Work Around, Installing an Unsigned driver in Windows 8 (x64), Posted by Soundararajan Dhakshinamoorthy at his Developers Blog. Soundararajan's example is for the "AVR Jungo USB Driver", but the SilverLeaf version of the FTDI driver falls into the same category.

Installing an Unsigned driver in Windows 8 (x64)
May 14, 2012
The kernel-mode code signing policy for 64-bit versions of Windows Vista and later versions of Windows specifies that a kernel-mode driver must be signed for the driver to load. So unsigned drivers like the one (AVR Jungo USB Driver) I was trying to install doesn’t seem to work right away on windows 8. In case if you are interested in what driver signing means please take a look into this article.
The steps to install a unsigned driver on windows 8 is as follows.
1. From windows 8 control panel choose General –> Under “Advanced Startup” –> Restart now.
Now the system will restart and might take some minutes to show up the boot menu. Wait for It patiently.
After some time you will be prompted with a menu with following options.
1. Continue
2. Troubleshoot
3. Turn off
Choose Troubleshoot
Then the following menu appears.
Refresh your PC
Reset your PC
Advanced Options
Choose Advanced Options
Then the following menu appears
System Restore
System Image Recovery
Automatic Repair
Command Prompt
Windows Startup settings
Choose Windows Startup Settings, then Click Restart.
Now the computer will restart and the boot menu appears. Choose “Disable Driver signature Enforcement” from the menu. Now windows will start and you can do the installation of the driver that is not signed. Smile
I did this specifically to install the AVR Jungo USB Driver which is a 3rd Party driver required by the product am developing and ended up successful. Hope this helps.

Re:Windows 8 and VMSpc Drivers
Also our preliminary investigation of updating
Windows 7, ( that has VMSpc and USB Drivers already Installed ) to Windows 8, the Main VMSpc Program is compatible, but the USB Drivers are not accepted.
To use VMSpc in this case, the USB Drivers would need to be Reinstalled, using the above steps.
Windows 8 VMSpc Drivers
The procedure outlined above seems to have changed some with the official release of Windows 8. I could not find a Windows 8 Control Panel but was able to Search( top right corner, choose settings) for "Advanced Startup options" and click on the result. Then scroll the right side to the bottom for "Restart now". Then follow the rest of the directions.
This procedure worked in that I was able to install the drivers but they do not appear in "Device Manager" and the program can not find the JIB.
If I try to reinstall the drivers, with or without the procedure, I get the message "Drivers already installed and working.
I am still stuck, Help...
Re:Windows 8 VMSpc Drivers
We will see if we can get a "clearer picture" of what needs to be done..
If the JIB does not show up as "VMSpc Virtual Serial Port" under Ports ( COM and LPT ) or as an "Unknown Device", there is an Issue with Windows detecting the USB Hardware.
i also need help installing driver
I have an ASUS tablet that I bought especially for the VMSpc. It is running Window 8.1. I need a simple method to install the USB driver.
